Honest Answers to Hard Questions

Clarity Before Construction.

Renovating a pool can feel overwhelming and the internet is full of outdated advice. Pearl Pools brings full transparency on cost, timelines, disruption, and expectations. After renovating over 200,000 pools, we’ve seen it all, and we answer what homeowners and partners really want to know.

For Homeowners

How long does a pool renovation actually take?

Most projects fall into clear timeline ranges:

  • Simple Resurfacing (Plaster/Quartz/Pebble): 7–10 days
    • Includes draining, chipping/prep, plastering, filling, and start-up.
  • Full Cosmetic Remodel: 2–4 weeks
    • Tile, coping, interior finish, light plumbing, and equipment changes.
  • Structural Additions (shelves, benches, extensions): 4–8+ weeks
    • Concrete work requires curing time before tile, coping, and interior finishes.

Pearl Guarantees:

  • ✔ A phase-by-phase schedule before work begins
  • ✔ Daily progress tracking in your client portal
  • ✔ No “disappearing crews”

Will the construction damage my backyard?

We minimize impact, but pool construction is disruptive. Here’s the truth:

We protect:

  • Grass and access paths with boards or ground protection
  • Existing hardscape where equipment passes

You should expect:

  •  Noise and dust during chip-out and demolition
  •  Temporary access wear (heavy wheelbarrows, crews, hoses)

We recommend:

  • Moving patio furniture and potted plants 10–15 feet away
  • Covering outdoor kitchens, grills, and sensitive items

We perform daily cleanup and a full final wash-down at completion.

Do I need to be home while the crew is working?

No. We only require:

  • Unlocked backyard access
  • Access to the electrical panel when equipment is replaced
  • Pets secured inside

Your project manager communicates daily through the customer portal, even if you’re traveling.

Why does my new finish look streaky or blotchy right after the fill?

Because plaster is a cement-based product that hydrates underwater.

Color variation, known as mottling, is normal during the first 30 days.

What to expect:

  • Color evens out over the first 4–6 weeks
  • Brushing is required twice daily for 10 days
  • Water must stay balanced to NPC standards during startup

Your interior finish is not fully cured for 28 days, so following the correct startup is critical.

Can you just patch the damaged spots instead of resurfacing the whole pool?

Patching is almost never recommended. Here’s why:

  • New plaster and old plaster age differently
  • Patches almost always show color differences
  • Chemical absorption varies, causing halos or etching
  • Many patches fail within months

Pearl only recommends patching for very small isolated repairs.

A full resurface ensures longevity and preserves your finish warranty.

How soon can we swim after renovation?

Most families can swim 3–5 days after filling, once:

  • ✔ Water is chemically balanced
  • ✔ The startup brushing period has begun
  • ✔ Your project manager gives the “all clear”

Heaters and salt systems must remain off for 28 days to protect the finish.

Do you offer financing for renovations?

Yes. We partner with national pool-specific lenders and can provide options for most credit profiles.

Do you handle equipment upgrades as part of the remodel?

Absolutely.

Most remodels include:

  • Variable-speed pump upgrades
  • New automation controls
  • LED lighting
  • Filter replacements
  • Salt system conversions

We install and program everything you don’t need a separate electrician or service company.

How long will the new finish last?

Typical lifespans when water chemistry is maintained:

  • White Plaster: 7–10 years
  • Quartz: 10–15 years
  • Pebble / Exposed Aggregate: 15–25 years

Water chemistry is the 1 factor in lifespan.

What’s included in my warranty?

Pearl offers a comprehensive warranty covering:

  • Workmanship
  • Material defects
  • Equipment installation
  • Interior finish warranty per manufacturer

Your project manager will review coverage and limitations prior to start.
